Business leaders involve in their community

Damen Shipyard Galati chooses in 2015 to be unique sponsor for important programs preventing school dropout developed by Heart of a Child Foundation: for School after School programs developed in School no. 22 "Dimitrie Cantemir" Galati and no. 2 "Gh.Petrascu" Tecuci, in the Day care center for children in difficulty in Pechea and also for the counseling program for school abandonment organized in 4 schools in the county. More than 150 children from families in difficulty needing support of school education for a normal progress will benefit from this cooperation.

This program is intended not only for children in urban areas, but also for those in rural areas, where it is well-known the extreme necessity for support and encouragement for children's performance through programs projected to improve access to education and school dropout prevention.

School dropout rate of 19%, in alarming rise, in the southeast and east of Romania, determine urgent and constant efforts to help children from poor families. We would be glad if this model would be embraced by more companies in Galati and neighboring counties.

The simplest tax exemption granted by the Romanian state, the sponsorship law, could help civil society and community projects in a much higher percentage if the concept of social responsibility would be regarded with more responsibility.
In a developed society it is considered normal that when acting and earning with the help of the community you belong, to to give back part of what you win inside.
Such projects represent the future that begins today a better world for our children.
The Sponsorship Law as well as the Tax Code allows companies to invest in their communities and in the development of Romanian society, at no cost to them. They can direct up to 20 % of the annual profit tax to NGOs - in up to 0.3 turnovers, amount which is to be deducted from income tax payment. According to ANAF in 2013, 191,691 of companies registered profit in Romania.
If all of them would have directed to the nonprofit sector the maximum amount prescribed by law - up to 2.3 billion lei (525 million euros) - could have sustained key areas, such as social services, environment and education.
However, only 16% of the companies have chosen to use tax incentives provided by the sponsorship law, the amount which was distributed to NGOs is represented by 523 million lei (118 million), meaning only 22% of the entire potential.
The amounts that profit companies in the country could have helped the civil society and the projects in their communities, in 2014, are not centralized yet, but are likely comparable.
“It seems essential for children and a great investment in the future of all of us, to ensure not only the right but also the opportunity for children, for of all children, to education, no matter how modest is the family of origin. It is an educational process that often ends tragically and far too early because of poverty. Thus we lose future plumbers, carpenters, engineers, doctors, Nobel Prize winners ... “– Anna Burtea, Executive Director Heart of a Child Foundation

We would like to thank Damen Shipyards Galati and in the same time to individual donors for the offered support and involvement in building a better future for children from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds from Galati!

Investing in education is the best intervention to prevent poverty!
